When it comes to hair product I avoid shine at all cost and prefer to matte out my hair – so when the guys over at MITCH offered their matte range for me to try it would have been rude to say no.
The products send over to me were:
- Construction Paste
- Clean Cut Cream
- Matterial Clay
- Reformer Texturior
- Heavy Hitter Deep Cleansing Shampoo
- Double Hitter 2-in-1 Shampoo & Conditioner
The well put together and nicely branded products certainly give an aura of quality and the splashes of colour against the black and white definitely help when trying to find the right product. I can’t help but feel there’s also something quite clinical about the MITCH brand.
After using all of the products for well over a month now, there’s been no disappointment in the quality of the products but there is one absolute stand out for me…
I’ve always been a clay user; so it’s no surprise that I’ve been rinsing my way through the Matterial styling clay.
The clay itself is a white, super soft and almost paste-like. It’s soft until shortly after contact with your hair at least, bonding quickly and setting almost instantly, you need to use sparingly and make sure to warm the product in your hands before application.
The smell is sweet but not overpowering – although this doesn’t play a huge factor in my haircare choices, especially when the product itself is so close to being my perfect product!
In truth, Matterial has been such a standout performer I can’t help but feel that both Clean Cut and Reformer just aren’t matte enough for me; fabulous products in their own right and have all the same qualities as Matterial just lacking in hold duration and strength for my liking.
Construction Paste is great for taming the mane and doesn’t leave any grease but does start to wane around the 5pm mark after being in place all day. Not too great when I want something that’ll last all day, not just added control.
With regards to the shampoo, I’ve been seriously impressed with the ability of both the 2-in-1 Double Hitter and the Heavy Hitter to cut through residual product and wash out with ease.
Not only that but both products leave your hair smelling great and silky soft to touch afterward.
All in all, I’ve been impressed with the entire range but as I’ve said throughout the one standout product has been and will always be Matterial!
