This spring, the leading association for barbering in the UK, the British Barbers’ Association, is entering the fray of male grooming with 12 male grooming essentials.
Luckily for me, the guys over at Mankind have given me access to three of said products. Over the past two weeks have been putting them to work to see if they can cope with my unruly hair during these dank, damp and drizzly days.
Let’s take a look, starting with:
As a rule, clay is a real winner in my hair, it’s pretty thick and curls when long. So naturally I attempt to reduce the curl with a matt look, never being happy with what I was born with.
So, what the British Barbers’ Association has created is a quality product that provides the perfect amount of bounce-back and minimum shine, exactly what it says on the tin (literally).
The trick is to use sparingly and not go too crazy with the amount used, ensuring the Clay is well warmed in your hands prior to application. The hold lasts the day, even when battling against some tough elements.
The Clay washes out without any issues, you don’t have to use any shampoo to get it out either, but should you need to use shampoo, then the BBA may have something else for you…
Right, don’t get me wrong – I don’t think my hair needs thickening. My mop is plenty thick enough without the need of this shampoo, but in the interests of a review I put it to the test.
In truth, I’m impressed with it. The scent is masculine and although it doesn’t lather like your usual high street shampoo, the clean feeling post shower is more than evident.
It’s full of caffeine (like all the German shampoos coming to the UK market) – I have to admit, it doesn’t wake me up like a cup of coffee but my hair feels great after using it.
OK, so things get somewhat interesting here. This beaut has English Peppermint inside, so when I went to use it for the first time I was literally stunned.
Aside from that cooling sensation, the conditioner has definitely hydrated my hair thanks to the added Jojoba Oil and I’ve seen my scalp condition improve no-end thanks to the Shea Butter.
All in all, the conditioner is my fave out of the three products but together, they’ve been working wonders in my hair for the past week and will continue to do so for weeks to come.
